Jokes (memes) are an active, living, and mobile form of disobedience. Students set out to explore memes related to data in a one-week workshop, projecting the final result on Elisava’s Façade.

Method

The process was discovery through design, almost like a manufacturing line of jokes production, exploring the limits of meta-memes: the idea that a meme is a never-ending continuous story, jumping from person to person every 15 minutes. At the end, connecting them in one data-meta-meme reels. A story with the same starting point, but ending in all kinds of exquisite directions, a meta-meme. The workshop completed with a meme audio description for Radio aha program where students even interviewed the beloved Jeff Bezos, well, we are joking again.

Conclusions

Memes, as a form of activism, are born from someone’s ability to make fun of themselves or the reality they live in. And in the end, we believe memes are here to stay, as a democratized format of a collective speech.
