Rocío Hidalgo
Guides the Magazine Design Master Project
Born in Madrid, she studied Graphic Design at Elisava (Facultad de Diseño e Ingeniería de Barcelona), where she graduated with the Bachelor of Arts with Honors title from Southampton University.
Since then, she has recognised an interest in shielding a space of vacuity and silence as an active source of knowledge and enhancement, of attention and care. A quest for a recurring act of quiet surveillance as a means to keep communications solid and significantly critical in our overly informed environment.
Her career starts relating to the editorial design field, spending ten years at the studio Feriche&Black for then continuing to work independently. Throughout all these years, she has developed the original design and the art direction for multiple projects, from more commercial titles to independent ones, bonding along with the city’s cultural fabric.
Leading, coordinating and guiding human teams has also grown more and more appealing, becoming the seed of connection with her teaching activity. For more than 15 years now, she has been combining her work as a designer with teaching at several universities in Barcelona.
“Making a magazine is an empathy act. That’s why I believe they have been and are right now such relevant cultural assets, because they help us in listening to other voices; in listening to one another.”
