Malva Sawada, Phantasia

Teaches Art Direction in the Spanish edition of the MVD

Malva Sawada is an art director and graphic designer based in Barcelona. Graduated in graphic design from EASD Valencia, she worked at Sebastián Alos Studio and developed different projects as a freelance in the artistic field for clients such as IVAM Museum. She arrives to Barcelona in 2008 where she study the Master in typography at Escola EINA.

For several years she works at Clase BCN where she evolves as Creative Director. After running her own studio with focus on art direction and packaging, she co-founded Phantasia in 2022, an agency specialized in creative direction, brand identity and visual communication. Her projects have been awarded with several Laus and ADCE Awards. She was jury of both awards in 2017 and 2018.

Phantasia provides creative services for imaginaries across the fields of visual activity. Banded together from a base camp in Barcelona, cooperating with an international field of view, we develop projects that give form to vision and voice to thought. Our services span branded communication, content production, printed media and digital products. Working with an ethics of horizontality, we seek out processes of collaboration that invoke empathy, curiosity and sustained encounter.

“There is no defined path, strict recipe nor ultimate plan when it comes to Art Direction. Together we will analyze the varieties of visual codes, search for unexpected resources and mark new and own points of view.”
