Data and Visual journalism are an interdisciplinary practice which combines editorial design, UX, web design, data visualization, interaction design, visual storytelling, and narratives to return the complexity of contemporary phenomena to a broader audience in a more engaging and approachable way.
The intensive workshop articulates on a single project development, which starts from a socio-political issue raised by the students group. Once framed that issue, students search for meaningful connected data, map the controversies the topic embeds, and then explores visual languages and metaphors toward the highlighting of a point of view. Finally, the students design the whole digital informative experience combining data and editorial design, to reach a specific audience.
The project focuses on the Politics behind the distribution of Covid vaccines worldwide and how the vaccine rollout is a horrifying display of the inefficiency and cruelty of capitalism.
Have you ever felt uncomfortable about your period? Or with comments related to this one? Or just talking about it? This project is about menstruation. Rule. Cycle. The red. Or whatever you want to call it. The main objective of the project, reproduced through an interactive platform, is to inform, normalize and break with all the taboos that are generated around this topic.
With a dynamic and direct tone, we try to lead the user to this world through interactive activities that give realistic data when collecting them. This interactive space is aimed at any audience, there is no gender discrimination because of talking about it. It tries, through a youthful and colorful language, to transmit confidence and transparency to the user in order to have a different and enriching experience.
A platform showcasing gender seizures within the design industry using data from four different fields: Academics, Wages, Professional Environment and Design Events & Conferences. We want to state the differences and embrace the possibilities, capacities and opportunities to reverse the situation of women within the design industry.
Our platform is divided in three parts: Data Storytelling (data visualization to narrate the story), women directory (a list of women working in design) and a chat bot (not fully developed) used to collect more useful data that can keep updating our platform.
As a way to respond to the ever changing ways young people are building relationships with each other, specially after the COVID-19 pandemic started, we designed an Instagram virtual reality filter to educate and promote the safe sharing of nudes in social media apps.
With young adults in mind, we decided that the best way to communicate our message would be in one of the most used platforms we engage with: Instagram. The end result is a fully working VR filter that allows you to learn about the risks and behavior of nude senders and receivers, while promoting sexual positivity.
