Dominik Thieme, DDOTT

Teaches Typography in the Spanish edition of the master

Dominik is a German type designer and typographer qualified at the University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg and the Plantin Institute in Antwerp. He is currently based in Barcelona, where he has collaborated with TwoPoints and Todojunto, among others. He is the founder of the typefoundry and publishing project DDOTT and leads the Branding studio ANEU. Besides his work, he runs courses on typography at L’Automàtica and has been invited to lecture at events within the industry.

Founded in 2017, DDOTT is a digital type foundry and publishing project that blends historical influences with contemporary design. The foundry transforms analog typography features for the digital realm, focusing on both artistic expression and functionality. DDOTT typefaces are designed to stand out and adapt, offering both aesthetic appeal and versatile performance for a wide range of design projects.

To become thoughtful designers, students must master the principles of typography and its historical context, enabling them to challenge conventions with intention. The university fosters a space for fearless experimentation, focusing on the development of strong, defensible concepts. Clear communication is key, and I guide students to refine their work through active listening, asking insightful questions, and engaging in critical reflection—skills essential for their success in the design industry.”
